About this check
These checks are designed to ensure that staff do not pose significant risk to your business by allowing you to access and review their criminal record data. An enhanced DBS check is only allowed for certain roles listed in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 for staff working, or planning to work, in England or Wales, specifically in roles in which an individual is providing direct care or guidance to children or vulnerable adults.
In England and Wales the check is provided by the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and searched against the Police National Computer (PNC). The result certificate will provide you with full details of a person’s criminal record, if found, detailing any spent and unspent criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings. The search will also check DBS Children’s Barred List or the DBS Adult First list where appropriate to ensure the applicant is not banned from working with either group.
*Please note that this check can only be requested by an employer, you cannot request a DBS enhanced check on yourself.
**For the vast majority of checks DBS will return the results within 24 hours but some checks may take up to 14days or longer.
What happens after you place an order?
Once you have provided the contact details for your staff, we will email them and ask them to visit our secure portal to complete a quick form providing the necessary information to start the checks.
Currently DBS requires the following details:
• Addresses for the last 5 years and the dates lived there
• National Insurance number
• Two ID documents (usually Passport and Driving licence)
Once we receive the DBS results these will be emailed to to you immediately, unless during the ordering process you specify that you would prefer to download the results from our platform.
In that case we will send you login details to access.

To be eligible for an Enhanced DBS check, the applicant’s role, profession or license should be listed in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An enhanced DBS check may be suitable for individuals working with vulnerable populations such as children, adults and in some cases within healthcare or personal care settings. Other cases where an Enhanced DBS check may be applicable include taxi license applications or for those working in the Gambling commission.
An Enhanced DBS check has all the same information as a standard DBS check, but may also include additional checks against barred lists and information provided by local police if applicable.
An Enhanced DBS check is the most detailed criminal record check in the UK. This shows any spent or unspent convictions, cautions, warnings or reprimands that an applicant may have, and any relevant details on the application's local police force. This type of check may also include a check of the children’s and/or adults’ barred list, if the applicant is eligible.
An enhanced DBS check doesn’t have an official expiry date. However, the information provided is only valid and accurate at the time the check was carried out. Some companies may request a new DBS check upon joining or at certain intervals at their discretion - this may form part of a rescreening programme.
