Every delay in a check adds up somewhere. Sometimes it is waiting for pricing to be confirmed, sometimes it is a candidate going quiet on a missing document. In this issue, we focused on two outcomes: making instant employment verification simpler to price and commit to, and taking manual chasing out of the missing information loop.

1) Konfir Report Waterfall is now an Instant Report option

What this unlocks

A faster route to instant employment verification, with clearer pricing and an option that sits alongside HMRC in your criteria builder.

What changed

Konfir Report Waterfall is now available under the Instant Report section, next to HMRC. It draws on Open Banking, payroll systems and HMRC data, and covers employment dates, job titles and employer names going back up to six years.

Pricing is a flat 47 credits per check. If digital verification does not return a result, we will fall back to direct-source verification for any outstanding employment responses. Additional charges apply in those cases, and the tooltip in the criteria builder flags this before you run the check.

Why it matters

Instant employment verification is most useful when you can commit to it without checking the small print every time. A flat per-check fee takes the guesswork out, and listing Konfir next to HMRC makes it easier to see which option fits your role and region.

How it works

Next time you build a package, Konfir Report Waterfall will appear as an Instant Report option. Select it the same way you would select HMRC. Results are delivered in minutes and stored alongside your other screening records.

A quick scenario

If you are hiring at volume and employment history is the slowest step in your package, Konfir Report Waterfall gives you an instant signal at a predictable price, with a clear fallback when digital sources do not cover a role.

2) Missing Information: automated without losing control

What this unlocks

Fewer manual chase emails, a cleaner audit trail, and a clearer experience for candidates when a case needs more information.

What changed

Missing Information is now handled across three places: the Ops Portal, an automation layer, and the candidate portal.

For ops teams, you can flag missing info at request or check level, preview a message in draft mode before it goes out, add notes and attach extra documents in one go, and use magic link access as a manual fallback.

For candidates, the email now links straight to a single page where they can view, submit or flag unavailable documents, with a visible support email for any queries. Behind that, an automated sequence sends three attempts across five days, turnaround times pause while awaiting a response, and a new status, "Candidate response not received", appears in your view.

Why it matters

Every Missing Information request handled manually is a small tax on your team. Automating the follow-ups, pausing the clock where appropriate, and giving candidates one clear place to act reduces that tax without removing the control your ops team needs.

How it works

The automation is disabled by default and enabled per client. Rollout is staged, starting with a pilot account and moving through Tier 4, Tier 3 and Tier Null. If you would like it switched on for your account, speak to your customer success manager.

More is planned for later this quarter, including configurable automation rules, a redesigned status view, chat support inside the candidate portal, and reporting and analytics in Q2.

A quick scenario

If your team is sending the same "can you resend" emails week after week, and candidates are dropping off because the next step is not clear, this is the update that removes most of that work.

What we are watching

Across both updates, the question we care about stays the same: do cases move forward with fewer interruptions, and does your team spend less time on work that a system could do instead? If a step in the Missing Information flow still creates a manual task on your side, that is the best hint for where we look next.

Why should employers check the background of potential employees?

Many industries have compliance-related employment check requirements. And even if your industry doesn’t, remember that your staff have access to assets and data that must be protected. When you employ a new staff member you need to be certain that they have the best interests of your business at heart. Carrying out comprehensive background checking helps mitigate risk and ensures a safer hiring decision.

How long do background checks take?

Again, this depends on the type of checks you need. Simple identity checks can be carried out in as little as a few hours but a worldwide criminal background check for instance might take several weeks. A simple pre-employment check package takes around a week. Our account managers are specialists and can provide detailed information into which checks you need and how long they will take.

Can you do a background check online?

All Veremark checks are carried out online and digitally. This eliminates the need to collect, store and manage paper documents and information making the process faster, more efficient and ensures complete safety of candidate data and documents.

What are the benefits of a background check?

In a competitive marketplace, making the right hiring decisions is key to the success of your company. Employment background checks enables you to understand more about your candidates before making crucial decisions which can have either beneficial or catastrophic effects on your business.

What does a background check show?

Background checks not only provide useful insights into a candidate’s work history, skills and education, but they can also offer richer detail into someone’s personality and character traits. This gives you a huge advantage when considering who to hire. Background checking also ensures that candidates are legally allowed to carry out certain roles, failed criminal and credit checks could prevent them from working with vulnerable people or in a financial function.
